Nature illustration commission for Surrey Wildlife Trust wildlife reserve by Ferne Creative

Create Something Unique with Nature Illustration Commissions & Illustration Services

Working with organisations, publications, and brands to create bespoke wildlife illustrations.

  • Illustrations Help Tell Stories

Illustration brings ideas to life in ways photography or text alone often can’t. It can simplify complex information, and in the case of wildlife illustration, I can create scenes, emotions, or moments that might not be possible to photograph.

  • Communicate through Illustration

Unlike photography, illustration lets you combine species, habitats and text into one clear, engaging visual. Illustration is a great way to inform and inspire, especially for nature projects where species are hard to capture or for future conservation projects.

  • Illustrated for You

Unlike stock photos, my illustrations are made specifically for your project – designed to suit your brand and audience. They can be easily adapted for print, digital, or products, and colours or compositions can be adjusted to keep everything consistent.

Why Hire Me As Your Wildlife Illustrator

I bring my passion for nature and wildlife into every illustration project I take on. With a background in design and six years’ experience in the print industry, I combine creative illustration with an understanding of how artwork functions in the real world.

At university I trained as a wildlife photographer, which now not only helps with my understanding of wildlife but to approach each illustration project with an eye for detail, composition and storytelling.

I draw all my illustrations digitally with an Apple Pencil and iPad, using reference photographs, allowing flexibility with composition, colour, and revision. Whilst I’m fluent in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, which means I can take an illustration from concept to a finished, print-ready design, so everything feels cohesive.

Most importantly, I care deeply about every project and the message behind it, especially when it supports conservation, education, or a love of the natural world.

Working with Ferne was extremely straightforward. She did a great job with a fairly difficult task and made all the adjustments we asked for in a timely manner and to a high standard. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her and look forward to hopefully working with her again in the future

RHS Silver Gilt Medal Winner - 'Beneath the Canopy' Indoor Show Garden

In 2025 myself and Jessy from Sprouts of Bristol combined forces to design and build an indoor show garden for the RHS Malvern Spring Show. The two of us designed and planned everything and then built it ourselves (crazy in hindsight) from initial sketches.

Alongside the build, I sketched our design intentions and planting plans and even illustrated pieces to go within the garden. Our garden was our own whimsical take on the Amazon rainforest to show the houseplants you keep at home have a key role in the world, which was supported by large illustrations of wildlife that rely on these plants in the wild.

Later these illustrations turned into a limited edition product range as well as an illustrated zine on our garden and how to care for tropical houseplants in relation to their natural habitat.
