Long and iridescent, this tail feather from the Eurasian Magpie (Pica pica) catches light in green, bronze, and blue colours that shift with angle and weather. Structurally tapered and built for balance in flight and display on the ground, it’s one of the most recognisable feathers in the UK landscape.

Magpies are highly intelligent, social corvids, known for their complex vocalisations and watchful behaviour. The tail, nearly half the bird’s full length, plays a role in both aerodynamics and communication, flicked, fanned, or held high in territorial posture.
