This illustrated vinyl sticker features the Rock Dove (Columba livia), the wild ancestor of the familiar city pigeon. True wild rock doves traditionally have a fairly consistent appearance, with pale grey plumage and two black bars across their wings, a pattern sometimes called the “blue-bar” form.

Over thousands of years, humans domesticated rock doves for food, racing, and message-carrying. Many of these birds escaped or were released, eventually forming the feral pigeon populations now found in towns and cities around the world. Because these birds are the same species, rock doves and feral pigeons can interbreed, which is why city pigeons show such a wide variety of colours and patterns while still sometimes displaying the classic wing bars of their wild ancestors.

This pigeon vinyl sticker shows the bird in flight, celebrating the strength and elegance of a species that has lived alongside humans for thousands of years. It’s a small tribute to a bird that is often overlooked but deeply woven into our shared history.
