Restless and fast-moving, the Long-tailed Tit (Aegithalos caudatus) is more often seen as a flicker of motion through tangled branches than perched in the open. With a body barely the size of a walnut and a tail nearly twice its length, it moves in loose, chattering flocks, sweeping through hedgerows and woodland margins in constant search of insects.

A familiar presence across the UK, especially in winter when family groups merge into larger roaming parties, the Long-tailed Tit is known for its intricate, domed nests - woven from moss, feathers, and spider silk, often hidden deep in brambles or gorse.
