My Illustration Style
My wildlife illustrations are digitally drawn directly onto my iPad using an Apple Pencil, all the same creativity but more freedom to draw whenever and wherever I like. My style sits between realism and colourful character illustrations, where I love to use lots of colour while still capturing the details of each species. Although my work is digital, people often say it looks like pastel. I previously painted with acrylic, and that influence still shows through in the textured, slightly scratchy effect that runs through my illustrations.
Ferne The Creative
I’m Ferne, a wildlife illustrator inspired by the natural world and a passion for design. My illustration work is a combination of realism and a colourful character style. I have been in the illustration business for nearly six years, but before that I spent six years working as a designer in the print industry, which really comes in handy when designing my products and packaging, alongside my experience working on commissions for clients.
In a previous life, I studied as a wildlife photographer, which I now do for fun while exploring the UK and my local area near Chepstow, Wales, in my free time.

"Working with Ferne was extremely straightforward. She did a great job with a fairly difficult task and made all the adjustments we asked for in a timely manner and to a high standard. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her and look forward to hopefully working with her again in the future."
-
Gill Hampson - Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council, Wales
"Ferne took her time understanding the brief and adding her own flair along the way to create the most exquisite drawings that capture nature at its most beautiful. Drawings inspire and give life to wildlife. The most magnificent illustrations that perfectly capture nature at its best; they are inspirational and give life to fauna."

“Ferne was a pleasure to work with – responsive, creative and totally got the brief. The final illustration is beautiful and will be a hugely valuable tool in our engagement work. We’d absolutely recommend her to others looking for thoughtful, high-quality design.”
